What the 8(a) program covers

The SBA’s 8(a) Business Development program is a 9-year track for small businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. Once certified, an 8(a) firm is eligible for set-aside and sole-source federal contracts that aren’t open to non-8(a) competitors. The federal government’s contracting goal includes a 5% target for Small Disadvantaged Business contracting, much of which flows through 8(a).
